Wiltshire 1st teams flying start
 Date Saturday November 25th 2017
 Assocation Wiltshire County
Wiltshire 1st team got off to a flying start on Remberance day with 2 wins at Bath University’s Founder Hall. After the whole hall observed one minute silence at 11am the matches started.

Wiltshire played Worcester (relegated from div 1 last year) first, starting with men’s singles. Jon MacDonald lost to a very good opponent in 2 ends. Simon Woodhouse continued his fine form from last year and cruised to a 2 end win. Andrew Jones won a gruelling 3 ender and Wilts lead 2-1.

Both ladies singles were long 3 enders. Lisa Elliott had 2 very close games before winning easily in the 3rd. Debutant Ella Scott Humpries won a close 3 ender after a see saw match. Wilts 4-1.

The men’s and ladies doubles were all close 3 enders but Worcester won them all. Men’s pairs were Jason Plant / Jon MacDonald doubles , Simon Woodhouse / Andrew Jones. The ladies were Julie Russell / Lisa Elliot. Nicky Robertso paired up with another debutant – Laura Pallett . Wilts 4-5 and needing both mixed for the win.

Julie and Jason won in 2 but both games were close. Jon played with Laura and won their first ever game together, lost the second 21-8 (!) before winning the 3rd. Wilts win 6-5.

The match went on for so long we started the afternoon match against Devon seconds while the mixed were on court with ladies singles. Lisa won another long 3 ender and Ella won comfortably in 2.

Jon won in 2 after a long, close first game he cruised to the 2nd. Simon made his look really easy conceding only 21 point in the 2 games. Andrew lost a very long, hard 3 ender against a very experienced opponent and a couple of unlucky line calls 22-24 in the 3rd. Wilts 3-2 up.

Wilts went on to win all the doubles. Only two went to 3 ends so a comfortable match win. 9-2.
