Wilts 1st Win and Lose

Wiltshire 1st team were top of the division at the start of play but had mixed fortunes on the second weekend of county competition to end up third; one point behind Worcester and 3 points behind Dorset.
In the morning we played Dorset. The men lost all 3 singles. Jon lost to a very sharp opponent, Simon and Andrew Jones both lost close 3 enders.
The ladies did rather better. Lisa winning comfortably in 2 and Ella fighting back to win in 3 after losing the first. 3-2 down.
The men split the doubles. Jon and Andrew Ferris – making his 1st team debut – lost in 2. Simon and Andrew J won in 2, holding their nerve to win 23-21 in the second. 4-3 down.
We lost both ladies doubles in close 3 end affairs. Julie and Lisa 23-21 in the 3rd, Laura and Nicky 21-18. 6-3 down and match lost.
Jon and Julie lost 1st mixed in 2 ends to a pair making no mistakes but some brilliant winning shots. Andrew F and Laura paired up for the first time and did rather well to win the final mixed in 2 ends.
Match lost 7-4.

In the afternoon we played Gloucester and won 8-3, but the score does not show how close it really was reeftiger.co.uk.
Jon came up against his nemesis in the competition and lost in 2 ends. Simon and Andrew Jones both won in 2 ends and both 21-18 in their second games. 2-1 up.
Lisa and Ella won both ladies singles. Both winning 21-18 in their second games. 4-1 up.
Jon and Andrew F lost 1st mens doubles in 2 ends before Simon and Andrew J won a long close 3 ender; 21-19 in the 3rd. 5-2 up. Just one more for the match.
Which our ladies did! Julie and Lisa comfortable won in 2 ends. Laura and Nicky won in 2 close games. 21-19 in the second’. 7-2 up. Match won.
Jon and Julie played really well to win in close games but Andrew F and Laura lost in 2.
Final match result was 8-3. A real turnaround from last season when we lost 7-4 to them.

The next round of matches will be at the end of March on both Saturday and Sunday, again at Bath Uni.
