Wilts 1st Miss Promotion by a Whisker
 Date Thursday March 29th 2018
 Assocation Wiltshire County
Wiltshire started the final weekend of competition with a chance of promotion in 3rd place – just 5 points behind leaders Dorset. It all depended on who beat who over the final 3 rounds of games. Lauren Chittenden played in place of Lisa (enjoying a family wedding in Liverpool), and Henry was fit again and back in the team.
We started against bottom placed Devon 3. We comfortably won 9-2, with only 3 matches going to a third end. This made it even closer at the top.
Our 2nd match was against Berkshire. Another comfortable win: 8-3. Of the 5 matches that went to 3 ends we won 4. That made it VERY close at the top and the mathematicians were scratching their heads. Who need to win & lose by what scores for us to gain the top spot.
Unfortunately we had a tougher side on the final Sunday – Avon 2. We had to better the score Dorset would get against Devon 2 and even then Gloucester or Worcester could sneak it. Dorset lost to Devon picking up 5 points, but we could only manage 4 against Avon.
Dorset won the division with 49 points. We finished with 48 and were placed 3rd behind Worcester on the same point by a small games difference. Avon and Gloucester finished 4th & 5th only 1 point behind. Berkshire and Devon 3rds were relegated.
Thanks to all the players: Jon MacDonald, Simon Woodhouse, Andrew Jones, Henry Prothero,
Ella Scott Humpris, Julie Russell, Nicky Robertson, Laura Pallett & Lauren Chittenden.
And thanks again to Brian White who refereed the event with usual efficiency despite having Wilts so close.
