 Date Wednesday November 14th 2018

Wiltshire 1st team got off to a flying start this season with a whitewash of newly promoted Cornwall.

Yes 11-0. Although it was a much closer match than that suggests. 3 rubbers went to 3 ends. 5 games went to extended play. And lots were won by just 2 points.

Jon won fairly comfortably at first singles. Simon started slowly before winning his 3rd end 21-5. Andrew Ferris won a close 2 ends against a very experienced opponent.

Both Lisa and Ella won tight 2 enders.

In the mens doubles Jon and Jason won comfortably. Simon, with Andrew Jones won in 3 - losing the 2nd end to just 9.

Julie and Lisa had a real battle, eventually winning 21-18 in the 3rd. Ella and Harriet (on debut) fought hard to win a another very close match in 2 ends.

Julie and Jason were in control of their mixed throughout, but new pairing of Jon and Harriett had to fight hard to win in 3 ends.

In the afternoon we played newly relegated Devon 1st team. From one extreme to the other.

Simon won a gruelling marathon 21-5 in the 3rd end, whilst Jon and Andy F both lost in long 3 enders.

Lisa was beaten by a very good opponent in 2 end, but Ella, after 2 close ends, won fairly comfortably in the 3rd.

Jon and Jason lost in straight games, while Simon and Andy J lost another close 3 ender.

Both ladies doubles were hard fought affairs, but Devon came out on top in 3 ends in both.

Jason and Julie lost their mixed in 3 and to end a long day Jon and Harriet lost in straight games.

Devon won overall 9-2 and look to be early favourites to regain promotion. But we could be in with a shout. Next matches in January.
