With over 300,000 women less active in the UK than men and a staggering 13 million that want to be more active, and having a plethora of qualified female coaches, junior assistants and Young Leaders in our armoury, The North Wiltshire Badminton Project is eager to start running regular and specific women and girls sessions.
The sessions will entail social, open and positive approaches to engaging women and girls in badminton. Statistically women have the biggest gap at 16 which then slowly decreases with age. This, we believe, is high in part to the largely competitive nature of club sport which leaves little space for the fun, social aspect of sport that these inactive girls and women actually want. Our sessions will be socially driven with the option of light touch to more intense coaching being available for those who desire it, and will be run and led by relatable female coaches with experience in sport development and behavioural change in sport.
To get the ball rolling and gauge local interest we are running a FREE “GIRLS ONLY” TASTER SESSION on 17th April 2021 at Corsham Campus between 1pm and 2.30pm for girls aged between 10 and 18. We are casting our net quite wide at this stage as ordinarily we provide mixed junior badminton sessions to 5-18 year olds in Calne, Chippenham and Melksham and are eager and able to make plans to open girls only sessions wherever there is a positive reaction to such sessions.
Places on the free taster session are limited and must be booked in advance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or contacting 079736 861350.
All of our sessions are of course organised and run strictly in accordance with COVID-19 secure guidelines issued by the DCMS/Government and our NGB, Badminton England.
